Shoprite and Checkers presents the Championship Boerewors challenge annually as it assists the supermarket group in staying abreast with consumer needs. This national competition helps the supermarket group to find a traditional Boerewors recipe that will appeal to the majority of consumers in the country, and enables Shoprite and Checkers stores to produce a quality product that reflects the value on offer in their Meat Market departments.

Entries for the 2011 Championship Boerewors competition closed on 17 June 2011.
- Regional Rounds
87 Regional rounds took place on Saturdays, 13, 20 and 27 August 2011.
- Provincial Rounds
Winners of the regional rounds competed in ten provincial rounds held on Saturday, 17 September 2011.
- Grand Finale
On Saturday, 8 October 2011 ten provincial finalists will battled it out for the title of Boerewors Champion 2011 in the Valley of Waves, Sun City.
