PROVINCIAL ROUNDS 2010

Ten provincial rounds will take place on 18 September 2010:

  • Eastern Cape
    In the Eastern Cape, 8 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Moffet on Main, Lifestyle Centre, 17th Avenue, Port Elizabeth. The event starts at 9h30. Well-known Port Elizabeth personality John Cory of Big Boyz will be MC at the event and visitors will be entertained by local entertainer Robert Gillmer, who was one of the top 100 in Idols 2010, as well as The New Afro Teens. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst jumping castles and facepainting keep the little ones entertained. SOS Villages will sell boerewors rolls to raise much needed funds for their organization. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The Eastern Cape provincial round competitors are: • Pierre Bylsma from Port Elizabeth • Charlie Makhele from East London • Salwyn Jantjies from Umtata, • Rudolf Cornelius Hermann from Queenstown • Chris Saaiman from Grahamstown • Henry Ferreira from Port Elizabeth • Yolande Coleske from Uitenhage • and Xolile Prins Banisi from Patensie.

  • Free State
    In the Free State, 6 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Hyper Bloemfontein, Vereeniging Drive. The event starts at 9h00. Well-known radio presenter from OFM, Tim Thebete, will be MC at the event and visitors will be entertained by live band “Kortsluiting” as well as local singers Paula Gordon, Connie Viljoen, Sandra Conradie and 11-year old Mieke. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst Simba the Lion, facepainting and hoola hoop competitions will keep the little ones entertained. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The Free State provincial round competitors are: • Sakkie Schutte - who came third overall in the 2006 Championship Boerewors Competition and was a top ten finalist in 2007 - from Welkom • Constand Viljoen from Willows • Rudie Snyder from Harrismith • Juan Harker from Langenhovenpark • Marthie Rabie from Suidrand • and Hendrik Botha also from Willows.

  • Gauteng
    Gauteng, with most entries received, will host two provincial rounds - one at Checkers Hyper Edenvale, Brickfield Road in Germiston and one in Kempton Park at Shoprite Jan Smuts, Cnr Langenhoven and Park Street. Both events start at 9h00. Members of the public can enter various lucky draws throughout the course of the events, whilst face painting and a jumping castles will keep the little ones busy. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products
    • In Edenvale visitors will be entertained by well-known local personalities JJ Stevens, Rhonelle, Marius and other local artists.
      The 10 Edenvale provincial round competitors are: Buntu Yeza from Pretoria • Frans Motidi Letsekga from Pretoria • Ernest Mqwati from Mamelodi • Paul Stephanus Fouche from Rooihuiskraal • Hendrik Petrus Meiring from Pretoria • Jaco Labuschagne from Witfield • Soni Samuel Mahlangu from Benoni • Anastacia Julius from Johannesburg • Johannes Lesiba Matlou from Sebokeng • and Pieter le Roux from Linden. 
    •  In Kempton Park visitors will be entertained by well-known local personalities Tiro, Tommy, Andre G and other local artists.
      The 11 Kempton Park provincial round competitors are: Maria Muyambo – who holds the title as the 2003 Shoprite Checkers Boerewors Champion, and was a top ten finalist in the 2004 Boerewors Championship - from Meadowlands • Joseph Modise from Soshanguve • Nellie van der Venter from Pretoria • Renier Lues from Heidelberg • Hendrik Botha from Alberton • Thami Mahlangu from Tsakane • Hendrik Stander from Verwoerdpark • Egene Holzhausser from Kempton Park • Elias Jantjies from Randfontein • Mandla Mhluzana from Bekkersdal • and Portia Mafusi from Orange Farm.

  • KwaZulu-Natal
    In KwaZulu-Natal, 10 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Bluff, 318 Tara Road, Bluff, Durban. The event starts at 10h00. Visitors will be entertained by Rowland Schubash, who will also be the MC for the day. Other entertainment include performances like unicyclists, stilt walkers, Celtic Dancers. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst carousel swings, face-painting, clowns, jumping castles, Simba the Lion and a dog show will keep the kids entertained.
    The KwaZulu-Natal provincial round competitors are: Bennie Nothnagel – who earned third place overall in the 2009 Championship Boerewors Competition – from Hillcrest • Prescilla Langa from Durban • Henry Driessen from Amanzimtoti • Alice Dunn from Escourt • Enza de Jager from Newcastle • Asheel Beharie from Ladysmith • Coopsamy Gounder from Tongaat • Prelene Govender from Durban • Jocelyn Vanessa Naidoo also from Durban • and Herman Andries Small from Margate.

  • Limpopo
    In Limpopo, 5 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Polokwane, Cnr Grobler and Hans van Rensburg Streets. The event starts at 9h00. Visitors will be entertained by well-known local personalities Will Jordan, Martin and other local artists. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst face-painting and jumping castles keep the little ones entertained. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The Limpopo provincial round competitors are: Alpheus Rameetse – who was the third place winner overall in the 2005 Championship Boerewors Competition - from Tzaneen •  Johan van Dyk from Louis Trichardt • Roelf Petrus van Rooyen from Potgietersrus • Veronica Angeli van Vollenstee from Phalaborwa • and Matsobane Jacob Matjila from Ellisras.

  • Mpumalanga
    In Mpumalanga, 6 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Shoprite Nelspruit, Sanlam Centre, Samora Machel Drive. The event starts at 9h00. Visitors will be entertained by well-known artist Jay Vee, who will also be the MC for the day. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst Sunbake Dancers and jumping castles keep the little ones entertained. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The Mpumalanga provincial round competitors are: Lawrence Nel – who was a top ten finalist in the 2004 Championship Boerewors Competition - from Barberton • Lettie van der Merwe – a previous top ten finalist in the 2003 Shoprite Checkers Boerewors Championship - from Lydenburg • Vivian Nell from Witbank • Jurie de Beer from Greylingstad • Cornelius Moses Khoza from Malelame • and Annelise Labuschagne from Belfast.

  • North West
    In the North West province, 5 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Shoprite Brits, Cnr Pienaar and De Wits Streets. The event starts at 9h00. Visitors will be entertained by well-known local entertainers Marlene & Reinhardt and Ricky Faber. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst jumping castle keep the little ones entertained. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The North West provincial round competitors are: • David Mokolanyane from Brits • Andrew Porter from Vryburg • Martie Lotz from Klerksdorp • Titus Mothusi Boyesa from Bethanie • and Sybrand James Botma from Venterskroon.

  • Northern Cape
    In the Northern Cape province, 5 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Kimberley, Cnr Bultfontein Road and Sydney Eden. The event starts at 9h00. Visitors will be entertained by MC for the day, Manie Kitching, and well-known singer FRAN-ZELL. Members of the public will be able to take part in numerous lucky draws and fun activities throughout the course of the event, whilst face painting and jumping castles will keep the kids busy. Various fund-raising activities will be presented by CANSA. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
    The Northern Cape provincial round competitors are: • Nickie Kuhn – who was a top ten finalist in the 2004 Championship Boerewors Competition - from Upington • Carol de Jager from Kathu • Jannie Botes from Springbok • Spokie von Abo from De Aar • and Gielie van Zyl from Kimberley.

  • Western Cape
    In the Western Cape, 17 regional winners will bring and braai their secret boerewors at Checkers Cobble Walk, Cnr Verdi Boulevard and De Villiers Street, Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville. The event starts at 10h00. Visitors will be entertained by well-known personality Rooies, who will also be MC for the day, and Martelize van Niekerk who shot to fame as a top 10 finalist in Idols 2005. Members of the public will be able to take part in various lucky draws throughout the course of the event, whilst Simba the Lion and facepainting will keep the little ones entertained. Coca Cola, Simba and All Gold, co-sponsors of the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition, will offer promotional activities and sampling of their products.
