2010 Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors – Now available countrywide!!

Over a period of 6 months, approximately 416 of the country’s most skilled chefs and food experts had to taste more than 45 000 pieces of boerewors before they were able to eventually announce the 2010 Championship Boerewors this month. Ten master boerewors makers ousted more than 1100 other hopeful contenders to at long last take on the ultimate challenge at the grand finale in Sun City. There the independent judging panel, comprising of renowned South African culinary connoisseurs Martin Kobald, Peter Veldsman, Carmen Niehaus, Reuben Riffel, Jenny Morris and Arnold Tanzer, were unanimous in their decision that it was the winning recipe belonging to 13-year old Jaco Labuschagne from Boksburg, that should wear the 2010 Boerewors crown.

Shoprite and Checkers’ Championship Boerewors is the real thing, always containing at least 90 percent meat - always containing beef, as well as lamb or pork or a mixture of lamb and pork- and the fat content of the meat mixture may not exceed 30 percent. Furthermore, it is of course the distinctive combination of spices like coriander, cloves, nutmeg and black pepper as well as fluids like vinegar, water and Worcestershire sauce that differentiates boerewors from other variants and gives traditional boerewors its unique and mouth-watering flavour.

The 2010 Championship Boerewors carries the South African Chef’s Association Stamp of Approval as verification of its excellent quality, and this year’s champion-boerewors promises a flavoursome taste sensation for the majority of enthusiastic meat-lovers. The new 2010 Championship Boerewors is characterized by a subtle balance – not only with regard to the expert combination of spices, but also in terms of the balanced mixture of A-grade meat that is used – with a pleasant spice-flavour that does not overpower the gorgeous meaty taste of the boerewors. The Nr. 1 boerewors is also nice and juicy without being too fatty.

The 2010 Championship Boerewors is now available in the Meat Markets of all Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores countrywide.
