The 2015 Championship Boerewors competition is taking on an exciting new format. This year’s competition allows only one recipe per entrant and no spice batch packs may be used. And for the first time in the history of the competition, the winner will be selected through a process of public voting! Anyone with an exceptional traditional boerewors recipe, and the skills to make their boerewors from scratch, could enter. The South African Chefs Association (SACA), a recognised authority on food in South Africa, will take charge of the judging processes, and they will be making sure that all entries adhere to the guidelines for making the truly traditional boerewors.Shoprite and Checkers are proud of SA’s boerewors tradition and celebrate it every year by hosting the Championship Boerewors Competition. The supermarket chains’ butcheries are famous for exceptional meat products and the group is always looking for new recipes and ideas in order to offer consumers the best in quality and variety. The annual Championship Boerewors competition plays a pivotal role in helping the group to achieve this aim.There are loads of prizes from Coca-Cola, All Gold and Simba and the winner will drive away in a brand new Toyota Hilux 2.7 Double Cab Raised Body Raider! Important information and dates for the 2015 competition:The OPENING DATE for entries is Monday, 4 May 2015 and all entries need to be submitted by the CLOSING DATE Friday, 12 June 2015. CHAMPION ROUNDS will be held nationwide on Saturdays, 11 and 18 July 2015 in main centres. All entrants that submitted VALID boerewors recipes before the closing date of the competition will be allowed to compete. Three (3) winners from each Champion Round will proceed to the Top 18 Round.The TOP 18 ROUND will take place on Saturday, 1 August 2015 in Cape Town where the final Top 3 recipes will be chosen by a panel of expert judges.THE NATION DECIDES! The overall winner will be chosen from the Top 3 recipes through a VOTING process. Between Friday, 28 August and Thursday, 10 September 2015, all South Africans will be able to buy, braai and try the Top 3 recipes and then VOTE for their favourite to become SA’s No.1.THE WINNER will be announced on Wednesday, 16 September 2015 and the WINNING RECIPE will be available in all Shoprite and Checkers stores on Friday, 18 September 2015.Share your Championship Boerewors competition excitement by using #SAsNo1 and show your support for this year's competion and entrants!
